Review: In the world of chilli sauces, we get inundated with blisteringly hot condiments that well and truly set aside the ‘men’ from the ‘boys’. Now, leaving aside macho ego‘testicle’ puns, it is a welcome change when a sauce comes along where flavour was the priority. This 1x 1st and 2x 2nd place recipient in the fruit category at the Mr Chilli 2015, 2016 and 2017 (respectively) awards is leagues ahead of other chilli sauces with regards to flavour. After all, a sauce’s main objective is to lift and emphasise a dish’s potential.
The plum flavours in this sauce ring throughout its entirety. From enjoying the aroma inside the bottle to placing it into one’s mouth, the plum is ever-present and was thoroughly enjoyed. Perhaps a bit warm for a dessert sauce, but there is certainly no reason why it couldn’t be added to a dessert for those who do enjoy a bit of kick without destroying the dish. It would make a very suitable glaze on pork with cranberries or marinade for chicken or chops.
Orcona has produced something excellent here. 4/10 for heat and 9/10 for flavour. Delicious sauce right here!
