Review: The first biltong that has come across my table – biltong is very similar to jerky in the sense that it’s a dried, cured meat but it’s origins are based in Southern Africa. The main point of difference with biltong is that it is dried then cut. This particular biltong is quite spicy so the flavour leans a lot more to heat than anything else. The chilli takes over from any of the other flavours. The beef has been cut into the strips and dried well and it breaks down with a reasonable amount of chewing. For me it’s a great level of heat but might be a bit on the high side for those not accustomed to chilli. I rate it a 3.5/5 on the my heat rating.
Verdict: Ian’s Hot Peri Peri Beef Biltong is a spicy beef biltong with a good amount of chilli. The portions are nicely sized, cut like strips and dried well. A bit spicier for the novice chilli fan but well suited to those looking for a bit more heat. For those who haven’t tried biltong very similar in texture to jerky. My final score is 4.5 out of 5.
