Review: Another great chilli jerky offering from the team an D. Jays and this one is right in my wheelhouse. I love when the label on any of the products I review says “Extra Hot”…its like the foods challenging me and as always my response is “Challenge Accepted”. This jerky definitely lives up to the title of “Extra Hot”, the jerky has the same level of chilli flakes seasoning as the chilli version with the addition of a dry powdered chilli spice which really brings the heat. The initial burn lingers on the lips and the after-burn maintains the rage from the stomach, like a pot bellied stove. The portions are unevenly shaped with portions raising from small to king size. The steak has been dried well and breaks down with a reasonable amount of chewing effort. On my heat scale it’s a 7 out of 10.
Verdict: D. Jays Superior Quality Gourmet Extra Hot Chilli Jerky is a hot jerky that’s been made very well. It’s all about the heat on this one and it’s there in spades so only approach this flavour if you love your chilli or are a regular chilli eater. This one’s for those playing in the big leagues. Well made, well seasoned and a worthy competitor to the jerky market globally this will warm you up on those cold winter nights. My final score is a 9 out of 10
