Review: One element that needs to be present in a sweet chilli sauce is that it needs to be sweet. It needs to be a sauce that anyone can dip their crackers into and not start waving at their mouth with their tongues hanging out. It needs to be a sauce that can be drizzled over the top of a Philly cheese spread and relished. This sauce satisfies those criteria. With the added element of ginger, which bestows its wonderful fresh characteristics do so well, one’s palate feels cleansed. Adding to the sugary base and ginger is the lovely sweet flavours of a ripened red capsicum. Adding to the sauce’s appeal are the delicious flavours of one of my favourite fruit: red capsicum.
This sauce was added to a fried rice and I’m confident that there wouldn’t have been a better sauce to add to my rice dish because 1) it complimented the meal and did not overpower it and 2) it wasn’t so hot that I had to scoff the rice down so quickly I risked inhaling it, inviting a coughing fit to possess me. The sweet ginger flavours married perfectly with the salty and savoury flavours of the rice. It is no wonder that this sauce was the recipient of 1st place in the 2017 Mr Chilli awards (Thai category) and 1st place at the 2015 Mr Chilli Awards (‘Sweet’ category).
This is a sauce that could be enjoyed by everyone, perhaps not children, but the heat is not over powering. Orcona’s Sweet Thai Chilli and Ginger sauce is truly to be enjoyed and will compliment your rices, samosas and spring rolls.
For heat, I would rate it a 2 and for flavour I give the sauce a 9.5. It’s very tasty and very enjoyable.
