Shashemane Exotic Spice Blends: Rastaman Dry Jerk Rub
Location: Kingsthorpe, Qld
Ingredients: Cayenne Chilli, Chives, Garlic, Pimento, Black Peppercorns, Nutmeg, Clove
When I first opened up the package and saw what was essentially chopped chives, I smirked to myself and thought that there ‘must’ be more to this. Incredibly, with the addition of garlic, chilli, pepper, nutmeg and clove, this rub reveals a very delicate and welcome flavour that would, in my opinion, be very welcome in a creamy mashed potato or soup.
I am not entirely sure of what a ‘rastaman’ dish is comprised of or even a ‘dry jerk rub’ meal but if it was coated in this, I would be quite content. The flavour is subtle and consequently, the flavour of the actual meal will be appreciated. Another meal that this rub would complement would be lasagne or any pasta oriented dish.
Shashemane is making a name for itself by producing rub, spices, teas and sauces that are different. The attitude of being different is something that I appreciate and find inspiring.
This product would be a welcome addition in your pantry, but if you’re in north Queensland, it would be more suitable to keep in the freezer to maintain its dry consistency.
