Review: It is no wonder that this sauce ruled supreme at the 2017 Mr Chilli Awards, taking out 1st place in the BBQ Extra Hot category. Chilli Factory’s Scorpion Strike- Stupidly Hot BBQ Sauce is quite simply, ‘ridiculous’. I opened the cap and gave it a smell and began coughing. This has been the first sauce that I have reviewed where I haven’t tasted it on its own. Marcel from the Chilli Factory knows his stuff and if he puts a 15/10 for heat on label, there’s a reason. I didn’t particularly want to experience that on its own!!
I added literally 6 drops in a 10cm2 area on a pasta bolognaise and I could immediately feel the heat emanating from those 6 tiny drops. Each drop had one purpose: to burn. They did that…well. I wasn’t hobbling around my kitchen with my face falling off because I was smart… smart enough not to beat my chest and lie to myself that I could do it; that I could take it. This is because, honestly, I would not have been able to take it. It is way beyond my tolerance levels for heat and I would have not enjoyed it. Having been wise about it, I was able to ‘taste’ the sauce due to the small amount added. It definitely possessed the naga aroma and flavour. There was a ‘tang’ present, which I get from all naga species. I’m not the biggest fan of the naga flavours, but I was a fan of the BBQ hints that I was able to detect.
For flavour, I give this sauce a 7/10 and for heat, this sauce is a 10/10. I never give 10/10 for anything because I never know what the future brings, but I’ll bite the bullet and say this is top marks for heat. Just insane.
